why was the lady not allowed to hang up even tho she rang me and i wasnt interested in verifing my details?

i had a call from major uk brands and she wanted me to verify my gas supplier i wasnt willing to do this and she refused to hang the telephone up saying she had all my details in front of her

There is a scam doing the rounds at the moment where they ring you and ask who your current power supplier is. They then offer to search the market for you to find a better deal.
The deal they come up with is not the best deal, it’s an expensive tie in with the company they actually work for and they have not searched the market.
When responding to cold calls, you should bear the following in in mind:
Never give them any personal details such as date of birth, ethnicity or National Insurance number and never verify details they claim to have on you.
Never give out bank details unless you are making a purchase or donation and you have verified that they are who they say they are. No legitimate company will ask for bank details on an initial call.
Be very careful about people who try to keep you on the phone and won’t take no for an answer. This type of high pressured sales is rarely used by reputable companies.
If you have never heard of the company ask for their details, name, address, telephone no (landline), company registration no. A legitimate company or anyone representing them will give this information to you willingly.
If they claim to be from a major company whose name you recognise and you want to verify this, don’t use the contact details they give you. Take their number to call them back, but before you do check they are genuine by ringing the Customer Services number on the company’s web site.
Ask where they got your details from. Reputable companies will willingly tell you.
Never ring back an 09 number, it’s a premium rate no and possibly an expensive phone scam.

She may have just been trying to acquire your information, and depending on why, she may not be supposed to hang up on people because that is considered bad manners?
That’s why you have a phone too, so you can hang up.
